Well I'm no noob when it comes to the Cummins Engine nor to the 2nd Gen 24V engines. So if there is anyone other that needs a hand let me know. I do what I can to aid you along the path of repair on your Cummins truck. ;)

Well there is much that can be done cheap on the 6.7L sorry to say...
Basically You need to address all weak links first. Like if you got a automatic trans upgrade the TQ convertor and the valve body. Then upgrade the fuel system with like a AirDog or FASS fuel system.
Then you can start considering upgrading power like a enhancement box or programmer. But there is a few other things like a CAI and exhaust system which will aid your power but since you got a EGR and DPF filter these thing will hinder the process too...
Give me some more info about your truck and I see what I can dig up for ya...:D

Here's one for ya! My buddy is serving overseas and his son ran his '06 TCD mega out of fuel. His dear wife and son put 5 gal of fuel in it and it won't start. It has been sitting on flat ground since running out of fuel. Check engine light comes on including a red light left of the steering colum in the instrument panel. I, myself, have a '96 TCD and my fuel primer button is down near the WIF filter towards the block. On this '06 is prime the problem? Lift pump? Does this '06 have a primer button and is that even the problem? It cranks fine but won't run? Help!!

Thanks for stepping up '73Man. Good to know we can turn to ya when questions arise!

Nope, electric transfer pump in tank, entire system is self priming, they should cycle the key to the on position a few times before attempting to start.

moparman1973, or anyone else, maybe you can help me decide. Looking at various 2007 and 2008 RAM 2500 4x4 trucks and have been reading lots of pro's and con's about either engine. As I believe the 6.7 is new in the 2007's, should we stay away from it? Then I've come across something called "blue tech", supposedly to lower emissions. Is this just more stuff added to the regular 6.7 that can go wrong?? We're planning to hang on to the truck for at least 10-15 years, so I don't want to buy something we won't be happy with. In the area where we live up here in Canada we don't even have air care yet, so not too concerned about the emission ratings. Thanks!!!!

SuperChick--Depending on what your end use will be, you might also consider the RAM 3500 4x4. There should not be much difference in price and the 3500 dually has a much higher weight rating. The drive train is the same. As for the 6.7, keep this in mind. The up thru 2006 models can burn either #Diesel or the new Low Sulphur stuff. Most of the power loss and maintenance problems on the 6.7 seems to come from the smog stuff read "Blue Tech". Recently I had to pull a Ford 350 with a Cat engine hooked up to a trailer out of some mud, where he had gotten stuck with my 5.9L 24valve. He was amazed that I could pull him and his loaded trailer about 300 feet thru mud up to the rims and said when its time to replace his Ford he will seriously look a Dodge Ram's.

Here is one for you.
03 CTD with 170K miles. Failed emission testing here in Washington state with 66% particulate (max is 40). Cold start up engine surge at idle. Part throttle hesitation, then ok power. Can feel engine surging as I drive. When engine loses rpm, engine noise increases dramatically. Fuel pressure before fuel filter fluctuates between 4.5 to 6psi. as the heater grid cycles on and off cold, then becomes steady at 6. No load 1200rpm engine speed changes dramatically with fuel pressure. Pinching the fuel line after the gauge results in 6psi max. This truck seems to have been converted to the in tank transfer pump, as the wiring was hacked at the electrical connector, and a separate wire was run down into the harness leading back to the fuel tank. I have repaired the wiring job, but left the circuit the same as before. I just bought this truck, and the symptoms started after I got it home. I am an ASE Master automotive tech, not diesel truck. Any help would be appreciated.
