I have a '94 Ram with the 5.9l v8 and just in the past couple of days, my oil pressure will drop, not to zero but close, only when i accelerate, and at operating temp, at a medium pace. it will then go back up almost to normal. at idle its normal as well. my next oil change is do in 500 mi and i am thinking about doing it now to see if it helps.

Any thoughts??????!!!!!

You need to get a oil pressure gauge hooked up to see the actual oil pressure (mechanical test gauge). The oil pressure switch stands straight up next to the distributor. Take the switch out (if the switch is found to be leaking replace it) and thread in the hose for the tester. screw the gauge onto the hose. Set the gauge so you can acurately read it when driving. Low oil, clogged filter, thin or diluted oil, a worn pump, excessive bearing clearance, or a loose oil pickup can cause a pressure drop.

what is the life expectancy of the pump and bearings with reg oil changes. it has right at 89k mi.

how much are the pressure gauges/where do i find them???

well.....I just changed the oil. Switched to 10/40 back to GTX. put on HiMileage filter, put in a quart of lucas oil stabilizer in it, since it breaks down sludge. I drove around town( Wifes work then home, 12 Mi round trip) and it was still dropping. Then I went to families 13 miles a way, and it seams to have improved greatly in the trip to the families. So I am hoping it is fixed. The sending unit is only 17 bucks, so if all else fails.....I'll try that.

BTW....my local auto parts store didn't carry an oil pressure gauge to check problems. They only had the kind you mount if you don.t have one in your vehicle.:(:o:)
