Hi All,
I have a 2002 Ram Quad 4.7L Auto Tran. I'm pretty good with a wrench. I wanted to change the fluid in the transmission but I never did it before. The manual said something about a pump. This made me a little cautious so I was wonder if any of you have done this before and can tell things to watch out for.
Thanks in advance.

What they are telling you is a small 12 volt pump to pump the fluid out of the pan, you can get them from harbor freight and tools , or Northern tool supply mostly straight forward, look in your manual to get the correct refill, but if the fluid is burnt, dark red or almost brown it needs to be flushed, i doubt that is the case but here it is any way
go to a store in your area like NAPA auto parts, they have a can of transmission (flush)cleaner, that is SELF propelled, you disconnect both of your lines at the radiator and hose clamp, or screw it to one of your lines, the lines you took off,(it comes with an adapter that might fit), and simply press the button on top ,MAKE SURE THE HOSE IS ON REAL GOOD...that is all I am going to say about that one, any way the solvent cleaner will not hurt any thing, it will go into the transmission go around and come back out the other hose so get a catch can, a folgers coffee can works great, good luck, note: I usually run 2 cans through just to be sure, you will see what i am talking about when it comes out.http://partimages.genpt.com/partimages/232332.jpg (http://www.napaprolink.com/Detail.aspx?R=BK_7652614_0006383997#)here is the part numberB

Here's the correct procedure. use only Mopar ATF RTV sealer for the pan. Anything else will not cure properly and leak. Scrape only the top layer of sealer off. Do not remove from the recesses, apply a thin layer of sealer to the pan rail an reinstall. Pan bolts are 8mm head, do not use power tools to reinstall them. use a 5/8 soket to seat the primary filter seal. Takes 7-8 quarts on refill. Use only Mopar ATF +4 fluid.
FLUID AND FILTER REPLACEMENT
For proper service intervals (Refer to LUBRICATION & MAINTENANCE/MAINTENANCE SCHEDULES - DESCRIPTION (https://w05.dealerconnect.chrysler.com/service/mds2002/Dispatcher?SERVICE=SoftLink&SoftLinkId=100028300)).
REMOVAL
Hoist and support vehicle on safety stands.
Place a large diameter shallow drain pan beneath the transmission pan.
Remove bolts holding front and sides of pan to transmission.
Loosen bolts holding rear of pan to transmission.
Slowly separate front of pan away from transmission allowing the fluid to drain into drain pan.
Hold up pan and remove remaining bolts holding pan to transmission.
While holding pan level, lower pan away from transmission.
Pour remaining fluid in pan into drain pan.
Remove the screw holding the primary oil filter (1) to valve body.(Transmission Filters - 4X4 Shown (https://w05.dealerconnect.chrysler.com/service/mds2002/serviceInfo/en_US/81acb3ea.htm))
Separate filter from valve body and oil pump and pour fluid in filter into drain pan.
Inspect the oil filter seal in the bottom of the oil pump. If the seal is not installed completely in the oil pump, or is otherwise damaged, then remove and discard the oil filter seal from the bottom of the oil pump. If the seal is installed correctly and is in good condition, it can be reused.
If replacing the cooler return filter (2), use Oil Filter Wrench 8321 to remove the filter from the transmission.
Dispose of used trans fluid and filter(s) properly.
INSPECTION
Inspect bottom of pan and magnet for excessive amounts of metal. A light coating of clutch material on the bottom of the pan does not indicate a problem unless accompanied by a slipping condition or shift lag. If fluid and pan are contaminated with excessive amounts of debris, refer to the diagnosis section of this group.
CLEANING
Using a suitable solvent, clean pan and magnet.
Using a suitable gasket scraper, clean original sealing material from surface of transmission case and the transmission pan.
INSTALLATION
CAUTION: The primary oil filter seal MUST be fully installed flush against the oil pump body. DO NOT install the seal onto the filter neck and attempt to install the filter and seal as an assembly. Damage to the transmission will result.
If necessary, install a new primary oil filter seal in the oil pump inlet bore. Seat the seal in the bore with a suitable tool (appropriately sized drift or socket, the butt end of a hammer, or other suitable tool).
Place replacement filter in position on valve body and into the oil pump.
Install screw to hold the primary oil filter (1) (Transmission Filters - 4X4 Shown (https://w05.dealerconnect.chrysler.com/service/mds2002/serviceInfo/en_US/81acb3ea.htm)) to valve body. Tighten screw to 4.5 N·m (40 in. lbs.) torque.
Install new cooler return filter (2) onto the transmission, if necessary. Torque the filter to 14.12 N·m (125 in.lbs.).
Place bead of MoparŪ RTV sealant onto the transmission case sealing surface.
Place pan in position on transmission.
Install bolts to hold pan to transmission. Tighten bolts to 11.8 N·m (105 in. lbs.) torque.
Lower vehicle and fill transmission with MoparŪ ATF +4.
