Hi gang

My oil change warning came on today at just over 3800 Kms, i bought this new 2 months ago. I haven't been towing or doing any serious off road stuff (just up to the cabin, about 80 Kms on a logging road). Is this just a one time thing or is the 2009 known for short Kms between changes.

I called the local garage and they said its an auto sensor set up, and that because i do a lot of city driving, the idle time is soaking up oil. True or False?

Also with mileage i'm getting 14 L/100 Kms on the highway, and about 19 L/100Kms in the city. I assuming as this bad boy breaks in i should get better mileage, but anything i can do make this better to?

Any comments and suggestions are much appreciated

Cheers,
Wil

Have you checked the owners manual? It could be that the light automatically goes on after a certain number of miles no matter what and you are not burning more oil than normal. a call to the dealer would probably give you the answer.

Dealer tech on here have input?

Sent this in a PM, but repost here for others:

They've been doing the oil change reminder since 07 on the 6.7L. It is a calculated value that the ECM uses various inputs to eventually turn the warning on. Engine temp., oil temp, oil pressure, run time, mileage, RPM range, ambient temp., calendar time, and other inputs. It's all about longevity and emissions. If your oil isn't all black yet, you can reset the warning. Turn the ignition key on, but do not start the engine. Slowly press and release the throttle 3 times. This will reset the warning.
