yeah your dvd player runs through the neutral switch. if your slightly fimilar with wiring you may be able to fig it out. you can get the feed from somewhere else. a little pokin with a volt meter and i fig it out on my budies ford. i dont remember where i got 12v to feed it tho.and im not shure if the ram is the same. make shure your feed is only on with the key switch on or batt will run down. i would make shure its 12v that feeds the dvd in the first place prob is, wont hurt to check tho.

It's done electroniclly from a message over the CAN BUS. No voltage from the neutral switch.

On the MyGIG radios, it depends on your state. If you live in a state that doesn't have a law against it, and your truck came from another state, the dealer can re-enable it with the scan tool. However, if there is a law in your state then they can't legally re-enable it. I do not know of any hack or adaptor available to bypass this.

yeah i thought about that on my way home my budies ford was a 98 and it was an aftermarket dvd player.!!! im pretty shure my snapon scan tool will also do this. im not shure if i can tell with out it being hooked up to the veich tho. (acctually can bus checks to see if parameters are met and the tipm sends the voltage!!!)

So it's been a while since anyone has posted on here, so i get it's a dead thread but i can help you out.

What you need to by pass this is a switch, wired to a) 12v supply, b) your e-brake.

I've installed a couple of different aftermarket dvd players, most i used a 12v supply with a switch, in my BMW, that didn't work, so i stripped a crap load of wire, and wrapped it around the metal of the e-brake under the e-brake boot. I understand pick-up so it's different there's no boot. But what you need to do is create a circuit that fools the dvd player to think that either a) your in park, b) your e-brake is pulled.

So in the BMW, If i turned the car off and turned it back on after the doors had been opened and i left the switch on, it would not display a picture, i would have to turn it on off, and then turn it back on again, and I would have a picture.

Hope that is helpful and not to confusing, lol. Just remember you only need to fool the dvd player that it has been put in park or e-brake pulled/pushed. And when you pull out the dvd player, look for the wire that is not running the factory radio wire harness.

So I kinda just realized that there probably factory dvd players aren't they? if they are you can try what i suggested by finding the wire and then adding a switch to it and see what happens.

good luck

MyGIG/UConnect Radios don't work that way. Please re-read this info:

So.. what Tbird is trying to tell you is that on a factory radio/dvd (unlike aftermarket units) you cannot simply 'trick' the radio with wiring change. The radio reads a data stream (can bus) to determine if the vehicle is stopped before it will allow a video picture on the screen. Reconfiguration of that signal is only allowed in those states where it is legal.
I did not know that, good to know,
thanks,
Robert

well i would like to bring the thread back to life... i just bought a 2012 big horn with the uconnect nav back up cam and 28g storage... so is the only way to get dvds to play while driving to have the dealer bypass it or can the data cable be tampered with to get it to work?

As far as I know, it's something the dealer can enable/disable with the scan tool, if it's legal in your state.
