Hello Everyone, I own a 08' RAM 2500 4x4 MegaCab wth the cummins 6.7L Diesel. I bought this truck to pull a travel Trailer which my previous 06' RAM 1500 MegaCab Hemi Strained to do. I'm sure most of you know the problems associated with the 6.7L Diesel, But I'm frankly tired of visiting the Dealer 1 to2 times a month. I just got the truck out of the dealer a week before christmas, and now the other day it had to be towed to the dealer 5 miles from my home. I have 15 Service records for emission related problems since I bought the truck in Dec 08'. They have replaced the Turbo, flashed he ECM. etc. On the last visit, they replced the DPF. My Quesion is, It seem this is a problem that continues to surface so is there anything I can do to fially correct the problems. At this point I'm ready to dump this truck and look at a GMC or Ford...

If you don't take the truck out for a highway run once in while, those DPF's don't really get a chance to do the "regen" process where the soot gets burned off, causing allot of the problems. There are companies out there that have DPF elimination kits, search the web. But if you live in a state where they do emissions testing with Tailpipe Opacity tests, you may not pass. If they just do a plug in OBD test, you may pass. If all they do is safety, not emissions, who cares. Eliminate the DPF.
Ford's and GM's also have DPF's, I really don't know if they're having the same issues, but I would imagine so, the regen process is pretty straight forward, injecting extra fuel on the exhaust stroke to heat the DPF up and burn off the soot during highway cruising speeds. Not enough highway driving, no regen.

Thaks for the info, That is what the dealer told me they said "Drive it like you stole it" that is easy to say but I live in the mountains of S/Calif. When this truck crapped out the last time, I was accending a hill of about a 5% grade, aproximately 5 miles from my home. Does the Cold have any thing to do with this? it seems as though most of th occurances are in the cold months. Do you know if the 2010 trucks are any better (I mean have they worked out some of the problems)?

I still sort of have access to service info and TSB's, and there are no TSB's for the 2010 HD Diesel Trucks... yet... the TSB's out currently cover 2007-2009 models, doesn't mention cold weather specifically. There are quite a few TSB's, ranging from flashing the ECM, cleaning the turbo and EGR system, cleaning the O2 sensors, quite a bit. Let me say from the get go, I haven't dealt with any of these TSB's yet, I've been at a Chrysler dealer since late 2007, and it's been de-franchised since June. I just know about the issue from friends and former co-workers that went to other Dodge dealers. I know about the DPF elimination kits from videos I saw on YouTube, but never looked into them myself, I don't have a diesel Ram truck as a D.D.

Hi crmfghtr,
I just brought home a Ram 2500 Quad 4x4 on Thursday, as my commute is only 7 miles I imagine I will face the same issue.
I'm wondering what kind of distance you have to cover on the highway for the emissions system to clean itself out?
Since I have 3.42 gears, guess I'll have to really get into it!
I drive a 2009 International TranStar at work and had some regen problems up until about 2 months ago. I put about 1,000 miles a week on it and I do lock out gears on the 6 speed automatic just to keep the revs up in the hills. Maybe it helps.
