Are Back Racks a generic thing or will I need to get one that is Dodge Ram specific? Are they all the same size? with the exception of a full size vs small pickup

"Back Rack" sounds like a broad description.

There is a product called BackRack that is a headache rack that mounts at the front of your bed to protect the cab.

Or maybe you are looking for a "Contractor's Rack" which mounts over your bed to carry long lumber and other products at over the cab height.

I have also seen Tubular Tailgate Racks available as well.

There will be universal products available, but model specific will offer the best fit.

The link: http://backrack.ca/ will take you to their site with an application guide to find the BackRack that will fit your truck. The site also shows Dealers where BackRack products are available.
