The all-new 2009 Dodge Ram 1500 has been awarded five-star safety ratings for driver and front-passenger protection in frontal crash tests conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

NHTSA conducts front crash tests by crashing vehicles into a fixed barrier at 35 mph, which is the equivalent of a head-on collision between two similar vehicles, each moving at 35 mph. Using crash-test dummies, instruments measure the force of impact to each dummy's head, neck, chest, pelvis, legs and feet. Front crash-test star ratings indicate the chance of serious head and chest injuries to the driver and front passenger. A serious injury is one requiring immediate hospitalization, and may be life-threatening. A five-star rating indicates that the risk of serious injury is 10 percent or less in a frontal crash.

Earlier this month, the new 2009 Ford F-150 earned recognition (http://news.pickuptrucks.com/2008/11/honda-ridgeli-1.html) as a Top Safety Pick from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

For a truck that size, I should hope it gets 5 stars. :D

Yes, but the government dosn't factor vehicle weight, the just slam em into concrete barriers. I'd like to see em stuff 4 government testers into a Prius and then run a Ram into it at 35 mph. You'd just pressure wash the stain off the truck's bumper.

That's true. But the Ram getting a 5 star rating seems logical due to it's size. It's one of the laws of physics.
