i recently purchased 08 1500 mega cab laramie (december)
one cold morning i noticed that there was a distinct noise changing gears! (only while manually changing)
i took in to the dealer where i bought it and they said it needed resetting (transmission cpu chip) the next day they told me my truck was ready! it was better and didnt think about it again until that night on my way home i went from neutral to reverse and Klunk i heard it again (on flat ground)

i have a call in to the service advisor but was wondering if any one else has heard of loud shaking gear transfering on the megacab?

I'm assuming a HEMI Automatic... what was the engine RPM when you shifted into reverse or drive??? How long did you wait between start-up and shifting into gear??? Could you be a little more specific about the noise???

I have a 2007 Ram Sport Quad Cab and have the same problem. When I shift into reverse or drive, it sometimes makes a loud clunking sound. After 8 trips to the dealership they finally came up with a service bulletin from 2006 that had a quick learn computer fix. This worked for about a month, but it recently started doing it again intermittantly. I was told that besides the quick learn the other reasons my tranny does this is because (1) I might be parked where my truck was slightly torqued (was recently parked where one front tire was lower than the other and it did it), (2) I need to give my tranny proper time to warm up or (3) it makes this sound because it is a hollow aluminum drive shaft and they are all noisy that way. Either way I was told that it was just normal operation and to just ignore it. If you come across a fix that I can take to my dealership, please let me know.

My 07 has done this same thing since the day I bought it. It's at 100k miles and still doing it, but it hasn't ever seemed to have any ill effect.

Thanks for the response. I have been told that it is nothing, but I swear this is the nosiest transmission I have ever had and this truck only has 15,000 miles on it.

when you stat your trucks let then idle down and the clunk noise will stop all it is, is the tranny trying to speed up to catch up with the idle speed at start up wait till it idles down around 800-900 rpm then shift in to gear you should have no more noise
