Hello, I finally got my dodge transmission rebuilt and put in and now reverse doesn't work. Drive seems to work fine but reverse has nothing. I can't think of anything I would of done wrong but this is my first trans rebuild. If anybody has any ideas I would love to hear them. I hope I don't have to tear the whole thing apart again. any info would help. thanks

NO REVERSE (D RANGES OK)
1. Gearshift Linkage/Cable Mis-adjusted/Damaged. -Repair or replace linkage parts as needed.
2. Park Sprag Sticking. -Replace overdrive annulus gear.
3. Rear Band Mis-adjusted/Worn. - Adjust band; replace.
4. Valve Body Malfunction. -Remove and service valve body. Replace valve body if any valves or valve bores are worn or damaged.
5. Rear Servo Malfunction. -Remove and disassemble transmission. Replace worn/damaged servo parts as necessary.
6. Direct Clutch in Overdrive Worn. -Disassemble overdrive. Replace worn or damaged parts.
7. Front Clutch Burnt. -Remove and disassemble transmission. Replace worn, damaged clutch parts as required.
Off hand, I'd say readjust the shift linkage.
Shift transmission into Park.
Raise vehicle.
Loosen lock bolt in front shift rod adjusting swivel
Be sure front shift rod slides freely in swivel. Lube rod and swivel if necessary.
Move transmission shift lever fully rearward into Park detent. Then center adjusting swivel in torque shaft grommet and tighten swivel lock bolt to 90 in. lbs. (10 N·m) torque.
Lower vehicle and check shift linkage adjustment. Engine should only start in Park and Neutral position. If engine starts in any position other than Park or Neutral, adjustment is incorrect or park/neutral position switch is faulty.

Hope that you got all the internal linkages right. And also, all of the pistons, springs and check balls in the valve body installed correctly.

it is usually a computer probem
if you havent flashed the ecu to the tranny it wont go in reverse
ive made that mistake to

This doesn't apply to the original poster. He has a 46RH trans. And, are you sure you don't have the split filter issue??? The 45RFE and 545RFE had a filter issue where the spin on cooler filter had an internal issue that caused the sump filter to split, causing delayed engagement and MIL illumination. There's 2 different TSBs for it. TSB 21-015-05 for 1999-2006 models that experienced this after a transmission fluid and filter service, TSB 21-007-06 for factory installed filters on certain 2005-2006 models. Not usually a computer issue.

Charity, there is only so much you can do now ,and SEE..with it up there....not to make you mad , but we dont ask obvious things , because most of us , think you might have already checked that part, are you sure the bands are adjusted , IN.. they should stick out about 3/4 to an inch depending on the band and adjuster, one inside the pan , and one on the outside of the pan,, just had to ask
