I have a 08 hemi Big Horn I am totally disatisfied with the 8 to 4 banger difference. I thought this was supposed to be a "seamless feel" yeah if you are dead and deaf. I have flomasters and even at 35mph I can hear/feel the drop down is this normal. I have gone to taking it out of O/d , gas mileage is worse but it least it acts like a hemi again. is there any cure? I've only had it a short time and still not used to the change. Any ideas to make my world happier?
First thing in the morning for about 4 minutes it is fine when it is warm back to up and down and it just drives me nuts. Loved my 04' should never have gotten rid of it.
I know this isn't first post on this but I am a newbie so bear with me please.I'm sure I can't be the only weird one out there that feels the pain of change?

Stop and think for a moment. You have a fairly new truck. It gradually adapts to your driving habits. The drop to four cylinders may be more often or less often while it adjusts.
You have an engine that drops from 8 cylinders to 4. The exhaust pulses are hugely different between V8 and V4 modes. Coupled with the fact you put on Flowmaster mufflers (2 seperate mufflers??? The kits usually have a single muffler, and if necessary a resonator {Definetely a good idea if your just looking for a small improvement in sound, without the MDS Drone}) makes the drop and driving in this mode more noticable. If you're really that dis-satisfied with it, there are programmers out there that can shut the MDS off, but really, with our economy the way it is, why would you??? To make a simple answer, yes, the condition is normal.

I posted as reply and somehow I think it went to La La Land.
Anyway thank you for the reply.
Let me get this straight you said the motor /vehicle will learn my driving habits and adjust the patterns to my habits? in theory that sounds at least interesting in practice I will reserve judgement. I also have truly messed with it as I have been exiting the O/D.
I do know using the wrong weight oil will mess up the MDS.
But also there is absolutely no engine "brake" when you let off gas it is almost like free wheeling. Thers is nothing I like about it except on the highway I can live with it but it is really not worth the aggravation for squeezing a mile or two per gallon and ruining a great driving experience.
I am aware of the economy believe me but driving my Hemi is my only vice and I understood going in the extra cost of a few less miles to a gallon but the difference is not worth the aggravation and complete dissatisfaction with the "new" Hemi.
I would be interested in hearing from other Hemi MDS Motor (Made Driving Suck Motor) owners and see if they agree. I have heard that Dodge has caught so much flak they are trying to come up with a fix. If true I'm in.
Give me some feed back hemi owners please. Or am I in the minority either way my Hemi may be on the block soon.

I have read on another post if you unhook the rear co2 censor. It will disengage the MDS. I have not tried it but just a thought. The new Diablosport will shut the MDS off.

This will cause a drivability issue as well, even though it is a downstream sensor, it does play a small role in fuel trim along with the upstream one.

I would never do anything as foolish as unhooking something unless I was sure plus this truck only has 4,000 miles on it not a good idea to potentially test warranty limits or dealers feelings on alterations. The Diablo is a possibility but not sure of warranty issues and chip also.
Closest Diablo dealer to me is 76 miles i live in ocala Fl if anything probably go chip route not sure if this will alter my up and down 8/4 problem but I believe it will.
Any recomendations on type of chip.
Thanks again TBird you are very helpful and knowledgeable

I have the same complaint, If I was concerned about fuel mileage i wouldnt of bought a HEMI. Plus they cut horsepower rating. I installed a flowmaster exhaust and removed my resonator. Didnt make a difference but am looking to get rid of the noise

Finally somebody else who feels the same. I think they made a huge mistake trying something that has failed miserably years ago.
For someone to bring up gas mileage and hemi in the same sentence never quite made sense to me. it is my only vice let me waste a few gallons of gas a year. Leave my hemi alone.
Thanks for the reply Jameser1
of line much slower top end better but that 's not what floats my boat!!

Plus fuel mileage is not that much better unless it is strictly highway. I get 16 on highway whoopee!!!!

like I said it was much ado about absolutely nothing.
if you have the OD/trailer haul button you can get real good response by swithching to OD off and you get an actual engine break also!!
I do it in town and to hell with gas mileage. i'll get a Yugo for that and run over it in my truck!!

well i'll tell you what. i have the same problem. i took off the stock muffler and resinator and put a magniflow muffler on and dumped it infront of the axel. i hear the change now but you could kinda tell when it did it stock. the milage i havent really figured out in my 08. i had an 06 and could be doing 80 with a small boat and jetski geting 20mpg.
I dont think its gonna be so great now but im going from southern california to seattle, washington and back this weekend. so i'll let you know how the real open road does.

If you're by chance refering to Cadillac"s 8-6-4 then you should stop right there. The problem with 8-6-4 was that computer technology circa 1982 wasn't what it is now, and the system never worked right as a result. That was failing miserably. The MDS in the HEMI is really a system not working to the customer's expectations. I honestly haven't had a customer at my Chrysler dealer or at my old Dodge dealer ever complain about this. But, there's still programmers out there that can shut it off.

wel once again terminology but botom line is I don't like it and as you can see there are others out there that feel exactly the same even if they haven't come to your shop
the gas savings is minimal for the lack of the Hemi i thought I had.
No matter how much you tell me it's good to me it's not and pretty much that's all that matters. You are trying to convince me of something that I won't buy into. I just think It's a bad idea.Period and hurts the whole aura or whatever of the hemi.
To bad they blinked at gas mileage and maybe should have attended to keeping the company afloat

i have the same issues. but this is where i found the problem. the day after i bout my 06 sport(with MDS) i had the exhaust redone. i got dual tips coming out infront of the passenger rear tire. where i, and yall too, went wrong was messing with the exhaust. newer vehicles are programed for a certain amount of back pressure. and the MDS REALLY relies on the back pressure to function properly. the way i fixed it was by moving the tips to the rear of the truck and adding a resinator. so between the extra bends and the resinator that help the MDS from switchin back and forth so much. as for the tone when i drops in 4 cylinders i can still hear it but it NOWHERE as annoying as before. also less back pressure means less gas mileage. i went from 24 MPG(stock) to 19mpg(first exhaust change) to 23 mpg(with rear exit and resinator). i hope this was alittle help for yall. but a piece of advice for ppl new to the MDS......LEAVE THE EXHAUST ALONE!!! do the intake and throttle body space and leave everything else alone.

The sound is because you put a flowmaster on. If you put the stock exhaust back on you wouldn't hear/feel MDS kick in.

Get a Diablo Predator and turn it off. Or enjoy the better gas mileage. It's reliable, my 05 RT Magnum has 160,000 trouble free miles, and I have a Sidewinder cam, Dynatecs and Borla 125 exaust. No MDS drone, cause Borla did a good job designing the exhaust. Before I had Flowmasters and the drone would make you puke! Borla is very quiet in MDS mode but loud as hell at wot.

i used to run with my 5.2 like that all the time! it was close to dead with 150k and it needed every chance i could give it to "merge" on the freeway!

I have been told that Dodge has a new upgraded program they can download. Tell them that it is a drivability issue and that it stumbles once in a while.
